Your Air Force Personnel at Hill are not just warriors. They are sons, daughters, parents and grandparents who are very interested in the local community.

You haven't heard about the "Paint your Heart Out" initiative a few years ago. It involved painting the homes of disadvantaged individuals and folks who were having trouble making ends meet. A simple act like sprucing up their home would truly be a Godsend to them.

When the word out through base channels, 130+ Airmen and families volunteered to help. Most were living on base on a fixed income but their community minded spirit compelled them to come forward, roll up their sleeves and go to work on their own time, mostly on weekends.

The weather did not cooperate and we ended up working Saturday and Sunday over three weekends, but that didn't deter these professionals. They just kept showing up, by the dozens, to each site. Ogden City assigned us the most homes because we had the most people. The paint was supplied but the problem was the Airmen had to buy their own painting supplies. Airmen on base don't have painting supplies so I put the word out to the community and many fine folks stepped forward. We needed hundreds of paint brushes, rollers, ladders, all sorts of stuff, and the community responded. Very special thanks to these wonderful merchants
who helped by lending their support. We ask that when you need supplies you think of them first as
they helped us so we in turn could help the community. Without them it simply wouldn't have been
possible.
